I mentioned before that I was reading the Bible with my wife. The current economic problems have brought to mind the part about the year of Jubilee. In case you are unfamiliar with it the Biblical year of jubilee it worked out that every 49 years or so everyone's debts were forgiven. Now, this was well published so all the lenders would figure up the years left till jubilee for any loans they would give. I wondered out loud how that would look in today's world. The first thing my wife said is that it would destroy the economy.
I agree. It would destroy the economy. It would do so reliably every 49 years. On a schedule. One that you could plan on. In an organized fashion which in my mind beats what we are looking at now.
The economy seems to be following something called a Kondratiev wave. I find it really interesting that these waves follow roughly the same time period as the years of jubilee.
This is something that would be simple to write into law, but nearly impossible to follow through on. Politicians in office when jubilee approached would have levels of resolve not normally found in democratic societies.

Immigration
Almost everyone has heard about the immigration reform that Arizona put into place. From what I have read the law requires police to investigate if they suspect that people are not there legally. I don't really have a big problem with this part. The problem that I have is in proving it. I'm not real sure that I like the idea of the police asking me to show them my papers. It just does not give me a good feeling.

Sick
This morning my wife woke up and promptly threw up. I was feeling a little off, but as I tend to do I ignored it. I got my son to school and got worse. I called the boss and told him I'm sick. Everything is a chore. I just walked to the front door to let the dogs out and got out of breath. I don't know if this is from being sick or working out this week. Like a lot of things it's probably a little of both.
So here I am feeling weak and watching MSNBC. They have brought up the campaign promise that Obama gave about having the healthcare meetings televised so that there are no secrets. I think that this is a wonderful idea, but it was beyond Obama's ability as president to make happen. I think that it would be a great idea for all congressional meetings to be televised or recorded in some way so that there are no secrets for any laws that are getting made. I understand that some things need to be kept secret because of ongoing operations, but most things should be in the open. This would give you the reasons that your person voted one way or another which is just as important as how they voted.
